Ten Tors
Ten Tors is the biggest hiking event in the South West. In the May of every year, around 400 teams of 6, from Explorer Scout, Cadet and School Groups, walk distances of 35, 45 or 55 miles. Starting at 0700 on Saturday morning, the challenge is to visit 10 Tors (points at the top of hills) in a given order, then get the whole team back to Okehampton army camp by 1700 on Sunday.
Who can do it?
Almost anyone between 14 and 19 can take part. Ten Tors training is organised through the Ten Tors Explorer Unit, so you'll walk with people from groups all over Cornwall.
The training starts in November, and includes topics such as navigation and first aid. From about December, there are fortnightly training hikes to help you improve your fitness, stamina and team skills. No previous experience is needed, and with the right commitment, most people will reach a high enough level of fitness before the event. If you've done Coast to Coast, you'll be fine!
